The Strange Copper Cylinders of Thaddeus Barnes was a steampunk online treasure hunt hosted at harrowsmithnow.com (http://www.harrowsmithnow.com/contest-backgrounder). The community surrounding the contest lived on facebook.
Thaddeus Barnes was a fictitious eccentric Canadian inventor from the golden days of the imagined Electric Age. His steampunk-style creations brought him fame, fortune, rivals and enemies. To keep his secrets safe, just before his death he buried six copper cylinders across Canada. The contest revealed six pages of Barnes journal filled with puzzles, ciphers and clues that led to the cylinder’s location. The contest also included a six part radio drama podcast hosted on rabble.ca
I created and built all the rich media content for the contest myself including the radio drama.
This session will detail how the contest was created and how it helped spread the new harrowsmithnow.com brand.
